It Is So Hard

It Is So Hard

You can understand exactly where your stress is coming from, but learning to release tension in the body is something completely different.

That is where most people get stuck. Because letting go of tension in your body is not the same as understanding it. You can talk things through, analyze patterns, even feel emotionally clear… and still carry tightness in your shoulders, your stomach, your chest. Your body does not respond to logic. It responds to safety.

And if your system does not feel safe enough, it will keep holding on.

Why your body holds tension

Tension is not random. It is your body doing its job. When something feels overwhelming, stressful, or uncertain, your body prepares. Muscles tighten, breathing changes, your nervous system shifts into alert mode. The problem is not that this happens. The problem is that it often does not switch off again.

So even when your mind moves on, your body stays in that same state. That is why you can have a calm evening and still wake up feeling tight and restless.

Not because you are doing something wrong, but because your system has not yet learned how to come back down.

Why letting go is not just “relaxing”

A lot of people think they just need to relax more. But if your body is used to tension, relaxation can actually feel unfamiliar. Sometimes even uncomfortable. That is why simply telling yourself to relax rarely works. Your body needs to experience it, not be told.

How to release tension in the body

Releasing tension in the body is something you train, just like anything else. It starts with slowing down and bringing attention back into the body. Not forcing it, but noticing what is there. Warmth, touch, and consistent input help your nervous system shift.

This is also why massage works on a deeper level than people expect. Not because it “fixes” something instantly, but because it teaches your body what it feels like to let go.

Over time, your system starts to recognize that state as safe. And once it feels safe, it can finally release.

Your body can learn this again

If you notice that you struggle to relax, that does not mean something is wrong with you. It simply means your body has not practiced it enough yet. And just like tension builds over time, letting go of it can be trained.
